Introduction and Open House

by Mrs. Duarte-Black's Weekly Thoughts

Hello there!

Welcome to my Choir blog. The purpose of this blog will be to keep you updated about what is happening in the classroom in a purely general sense. Student names will NOT be used. My desire for this blog is to be informational and educational. I plan to update weekly on what we've been working on, and attempt to explain some of the terminology used to increase awareness about what my students are expected to understand and use on a daily basis.

Often, Choir isn't seen as an acedemic course, and I believe that this is mostly a result of the lack of understanding about what happens in a Choir rehearsal. You know all the specifics when you're talking about an English or a Math class, because everyone had to take those. This is not the case with Choir. I want to emphasize that Choir is not a course you take to get an "A" for singing. There is so much more to the class than that, as you will see in the weeks to come.

Open House was this evening!

It was so exciting to see so many students around the school. It was really great to meet some of my new students and visit with my returning students. A truly special and unique part of my job is that I don't have to "break in" a new set of students each year. The majority of my students are returning, and they assist me in showing my new students "the ropes." The relationship I develop with my students continues to grow as we begin and end each year. I absolutely love it.

I can't wait for Monday to arrive! :)
